It is important to
protect your art investment by choosing a
professional portraitist
so that your painting will last. Artists
who produce inexpensive
works must use cheap materials
and often are unaware
of archival method.
It is not unusual for
a poorly constructed
painting to begin
to crack, peel, fade, or otherwise
deteriorate within
40-60 years. Studio photography
would be a better
choice for the shorter term and
certainly provide
the satisfaction of an accurate likeness.

of what happens in
relatively short time to a beautiful
portrait which was
not prepared and rendered properly.

a professional who can meet
your vision for this
important heirloom.
Wendy Wassink Ackison is a nationally
published portrait artist and illustrator with
over 700 works in print, including
magazine and book covers, and fully illustrated children’s
books. She has created portraits
all of her life, and has been painting professionally since 1973.
She is known for her accurate likenesses,
and is pleased to provide photo reference for portraits
previously commissioned.
Her portraits are on exhibit at WWA PORTRAIT STUDIO
& GALLERY, and at various galleries
in West Virginia (list availbable on request).
Ackison’s formal training as a designer
has been helpful in the area of portraiture.
As a book and magazine illustrator,
she has learned to be very exacting, and in addition to traditional
portraiture, can create fanciful
portraits or posthumous scenes, combining elements that may no longer exist.
As an established artist, she is
invited to lecture and give demonstrations/workshops in West
Virginia several times each year
for such hosts as Carnegie Hall (Lewisburg, WV), Tamarack
(Beckley, WV), and various schools
in the state, with audiences ranging from kindergarten to college.
Wendy
was the artist chosen to represent WV in
the
category of VISUAL ARTS at THE SOUTHERN
GOVERNOR'S
ASSOCIATION conference
at the Capitol
in
Charleston, WV. She is shown here with one of several
original
portraits exhibited at her painting demonstration.
